Niwa no Uguisu “45”

Yamaguchi Sake Brewery is located in Kitano-cho, northern Kurume City. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, which is dedicated to Michizane Sugawara, was built nearby, and it is said that warblers came from Tenmangu Shrine almost every day to quench their thirst and bathe in the well in the garden. The representative brand "Niwa no Uguisu'' was named after this. Yamaguchi Sake Brewery was founded in 1832 (Tenpo 3) in the late Edo period. The history of the brewery is said to have started when the fifth generation of the Yamaguchi family, which had been a merchant family for generations and was also known as a large landowner, obtained permission from the local Kurume clan and started the sake brewing industry. It also became a purveyor to the Arima clan, and a magnificent brewery was built that still stands today. Since the end of the Showa era, they have been working diligently on making Junmai sake, and currently the percentage of specific name sake in their brewery exceeds 90%. In 1991 (Heisei 3), the brewery suffered severe damage from a large typhoon, and although they briefly considered moving the brewery, they decided to continue making sake in the familiar location. By downsizing the equipment, we shifted to small-scale sake brewing, where the characteristics of the raw materials, water and rice, and the makers can be more clearly expressed. By paying close attention to the timing of shipment, they are bringing out delicious sake to the world.
