Sakai Brewing Company

The name of the brand is named after Kintai Bridge, a famous bridge in Iwakuni, where the five lines are located. It won first place at the National Sake Competition in 1947, and second place at the National Sake Competition held in the fall of the same year. Immediately after the war, there were many hardships in sake brewing, but the sake proved its high level of technical ability and has since become a famous sake that is known throughout the country.
The taste is a deep, full-bodied type that can be said to be characteristic of the Chugoku region. Even in standard honjozo and regular sake, you can feel the flavor derived from rice, which shows not only the technical ability but also the conscience of the sake brewery.
In 1996, we began contract cultivation of Yamada Nishiki with a volunteer group called Toratan Village in the Ikachi district of Yanai City within the prefecture. The company has also relocated its own rice mill, and is now the main source of raw rice. We are also working on brewing sake using wooden barrels, and we ship this product as a limited edition product to authorized dealers under the brand “Five”. With sake quality that incorporates modern tastes and innovative labels, this brewery is breaking new ground by breaking away from the old image of wooden barrels. (Haruo Matsuzaki)
