About Kinoshita Brewing Company

Asahikawa is located almost in the center of Hokkaido. Otokoyama is a local sake brewed there using the famous water of Daisetsuzan. In 1977, it became the world's first sake to win the Monde Selection Gold Award. Since then, it has continued to receive awards for 40 years, and has also won numerous gold medals at domestic and international alcohol competitions and the National New Sake Appraisal, and is known as a sake representative of the northern land. "Otokoyama" is known throughout the country as a synonym for fine sake, but the origin of the name is our brewery. "Otokoyama'' is an official sake of the Edo Shogunate called "Gomenzake'', and has a history of being so popular that it was depicted in Kabuki, Joruri, and Ukiyo-e.During the Edo period, "Otokoyama'' was produced in Hyogo and Itami. The Yamamoto family, which was brewing sake under the trade name of "Ya'', took its name from Otokoyama Hachimangu Shrine and was born, and although it became a big boom, it went out of business around the Meiji period. Yamazaki Sake Brewery, the predecessor of Otokoyama Co., Ltd., was founded in Hokkaido in 1899 (Meiji 32). Despite steadily increasing production, sake from Honshu, including Nada, is booming in Hokkaido. Not receiving good reviews, and wanting to make even better sake, he visited the Yamamoto family in Itami in 1968, in the middle of the Showa era, and succeeded to the "Otokoyama'' tradition. The company name was changed upon completion of the new building. The "Otokoyama Sake Brewing Museum'' has been set up inside the main warehouse, and there is an exhibition corner that introduces masterpieces, materials, and literature related to the traditional culture of "Otokoyama'', and it is also possible to tour the sake brewing process. Additionally, during the peak brewing season, the brewery is opened to the public around February every year, and it has become a huge event that attracts over 10,000 fans.
